I really, really liked this movie. Psychological and familial trauma… there was a beautiful tipping point in the movie where I really did not believe that Umma’s spirit was there, I was convinced it was Sandra Oh’s PTSD manifesting in hallucinations and I think that is the mark of what makes a good film in this genre. Don't Look Up 2021
I have enjoyed other films by Adam McKay more than this, and after the tour de force of Vice I admittedly wanted to see him go in a more serious direction in his next film. I think while the pop-culture driven comedic elements certainly grounded the movie in reality in a way and was a deeper indictment of the culture we find ourselves in, I can’t help but feel it was heavy handed at times.
