Tristan’s review published on Letterboxd:
31 Days of October: Film #20
After receiving the Criterion of the film, I replaced Hereditary on my 31 Days of October list. It’s not classified as a horror film on Letterboxd, but after seeing Lynch’s adorable film on the experience of fatherhood, I went ahead and made the assumption.
I was correct.
This is a horror film. A full fledged, unadulterated, semi-erotic horror film that chilled me to the bone. Lynch’s intricate storytelling is near unmatched. Good lord, I haven’t felt this way after a film ended since Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. A glistening, melodramatic, all around horrifying portrayal of the dream state mixing with reality. I’m short on time, so unfortunately, I can’t write an essay. But expect one on a rewatch, and expect that 99 to most likely go up to a 100. One of the best films that I have ever seen in my life.
