    Apt Pupil

Don't mind me. Just continuing my watch through of all the movies adapted from Stephen King's book Different Seasons.

I'd never seen this one before today, but Apt Pupil was my favorite of the four novellas and I was really interested in seeing how it would transition from page to screen. The results are... pretty okay, though there are definite flaws and I'm no fan of the director.

It's funny, it's clever, it's endlessly entertaining, and there are even a handful of genuinely creepy parts! Sure it's basically just Ginger Snaps for the other end of the '00s, but who cares? It rocks.

    Hooptober 5 #33: Halloween (2018)

I really enjoyed the new Halloween! The score is epic, the kills are intense, and it's great fun to count the myriad ways in which John Carpenter's magnum opus is evoked, remixed, and subverted. This movie is just pure fanservice, through and through - and that's great because after decades of shaky sequels, reboots, and direction changes, the Halloween franchise needed some servicing.

I have a few small quarrels but most of them are down…
