The Films That Inspired Craig Moss' 'Let Us In'

LET US IN is available on both VOD and Digital on July 2, 2021.

Growing up in the eighties, we were spoiled and it had nothing to do with the mantra “Greed is Good” but, instead, it was because we were able to watch the greatest films of all time newly released in theaters. Movies like The Goonies, Ghostbusters, E.T, and all the John Hughes films, were the visual soundtracks of our lives. These films left indelible marks on us as we continued on with our lives in hopes that we would hook up with the prom queen or have to battle the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. As a filmmaker you were inspired by such brilliance hoping that you could some day tell a story half as good as these filmmakers. So, ultimately, I was given an opportunity with our film, Let Us In, to pay homage to films of that generation, specifically The Goonies and E.T, but giving it a unique perspective in contemporary times. The hope was to bring back the magic of that era and possibly inspire others to continue to tell stories inspired by the great works of that time.

In addition to those films we were able to draw inspiration from a nineties classic, Scream. The opening sequence in particular in addition to implementing a bad ass female protagonist who ultimately sets out to save the day. Scream was such a structurally sound film filled with jump scares, creepy moments and multiple twists that kept you in suspense but at the same time never took itself too seriously.

These older films served as great inspiration to our film harkening back to a time when cinema was at it’s absolute best.
