2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey ★★★★½

First time watch and certainly won’t be my last, despite the genuine fear this struck in my heart. There’s this current of truth that runs through it, not through realism but through “feeling” (I’ve found this with every Kubrick film I’ve watched so far, each in their own way). It’s hard for me to define, but here there’s this notion towards humankind’s future, something tangible but unable to be grasped until it’s inevitable happening, something so far beyond us, that I think resonates with most individuals on a deeply psychological level. It’s unsettles me to say the least. Can I argue this as a horror film based on existential dread alone? I think I may be trying to.
