When (drunk, of course) Emile de Antonio says "I want to find the Face of Death, and cut his balls off", that's cinema to me.

I respect what other people took from this but it fell flat for me. It's a clever synthesis of many avant-garde effects that have been done very well in other films over the decades (thinking of works by Michael Snow, Clemens Klopfenstein, Philippe Garrel, to name a few) but with cheesy and trope-y horror elements that were obvious and cheap. I'm glad to go to the multiplex and see something different, but if this can get a moment to show in front of audiences, why can't anything truly cinematically bold get a shot as well?
