This film instantly brought me down to my knees. I was just sobbing the entire way through, knowing it was the most beautiful work of art Zhang Yimou has ever created - second to only "To Live." Despite the more period setting, the story is yet again so real; especially to think that this could happen to literally anyone around us even these days.
Gong Li had undoubtedly done it again, even when she's older now (well not that old, but you know what I mean) compared to what I'm saying here to be her "golden days" that feature her iconic collaborations with Zhang. Chen Daoming as her husband also did a great job. And they have fantastic chemistry.
Definitely worth a rewatch. Maybe someday in the future, I would.
