Mulholland Drive

Mulholland Drive ★★★★★

"...So don't play it for real until it gets real."

Finally got this on Criterion, and as much as I love Blue Velvet it's still my favorite thing Lynch has ever done. Though we often throw around the term "dreamlike" when describing films, Mulholland Drive, for 147 minutes, truly makes you feel like a participant in a living, breathing dream- and in the case of the last 30 minutes, a nightmare. Watts and Harring give two of my favorite female performances, and Club Silencio (among many amazing scenes in here) is in the running for greatest movie scene of all time. How Lynch reshaped this from a tv pilot that never saw the light of day to arguably one of the finest works produced by cinematic form remains, like the film itself, something of an enigma, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
