Gosh...what a truly heartbreaking loss Chadwick Boseman is. I've always admired the actor, but never realized that he had the potential he shows in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom". An intimate, heartfelt and powerful period piece, it proves to be the ultimate showcase for its late star. It is not easy to adapt stage productions to the big-screen, but George C. Wolfe pulls it off beautifully. The sets, costumes and musical sequences are all carefully crafted, making a seamless transition from the stage to screen. That being said, the film isn't flawless and suffers from a rushed running-time. Nonetheless, it is easily one of the best movies of the year. Here's why:
