Okja ★★★★½

OKJA successfully manages to blend darkly brilliant satire and compellingly beautiful drama with insanely offbeat humor and adventurous spectacle. Due to the film’s overarching sense of imaginative, ambitious, grim weirdness, it deliciously coheres its contrasting elements into a powerfully captivating modern fairytale reminiscent of a more mature Studio Ghibli film. It’s a completely original, wonderfully unique, and absolutely devastating look at corporate evil and animal rights.
