I was lucky enough to see this in a packed house at TIFF 2023. With all the doom and gloom, both in the real world and inside a lot of films currently (not saying those films aren't good necessarily) The Holdovers was a nice change of pace. This little Netflix gem hit all the disturbing, ugly and dissonant chords I hoped it would, given the concept of the film. I had the privilege of seeing this film before its release with a large crowd in a great cinema in Vancouver, Canada. Very simply; if you're a Wes Anderson fan, you will enjoy this film. It has everything we have come to expect from an Anderson film and Asteroid City does not deviate from his visual style, themes or rhythm of dialogue. This film is also layered (story wise) in a way that reminded me of Purple Rose of Cairo…
