Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker

Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker ★★★★

went into this thinking it was just a profile of a unique event that i was unfamiliar with

elated to learn that it was actually an airtight argument for funding the arts (without explicitly raising the point in any direct way)

there's a point in the first half when one of the students mentions she's never seen the "real" nutcracker and that [paraphrasing here] while she might seem out of place in any other company, she and everybody at DADA have spent their entire childhoods in this world and it's all they know

and when debbie recounts the moment her mentor confesses to (essentially) a sort of quota system, and she rejects that narrative based on faith in her own innate talent... the themes of representation and equal opportunity for the generation she has raised really come full circle
