Henry the Host’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Episode gets high jacked by guests, but at least the movie was pretty solid."
Detective Pikachu was worth the weight and was a fun experience. I like to think of it as the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" of the modern age, this film is a delightful way to bring the wonderful world of Pokemon to the big screen. Obviously Ryan Reynold's portrayal as the titular character def helps this kids' film to be an enjoyable romp for almost anyone new or old to the genre. The effects of bringing Pokemon to life by the talented artist of RJ Palmer (who I got to meet).
While some of the acting seems...awkward for the narrative, the film does deliver a decent enough caper.
Honestly though, between you and me, I wish we got more of the Torterra scenes. But that's mostly cause Torterra is one of my favorite Pokemon.
Its got a lot of heart and was a delightful way to start the summer of 2019. If you wanna "catch" the full review of the movie, check out IT CAME FROM THE PARKING LOT: EPISODE 2 on ICFAMMPodcast wherever you listen to podcasts.
