Anna and the Apocalypse works on so many levels, which is even more impressive when you consider how many levels it's operating on! It's a zombie movie, a Christmas movie, a musical, and a comedy, and it succeeds at all of them! I liked this one a good deal more than the original. The writing was a step up, the story was both better & more direct, and the music flowed better with the action. The actors who were cast as younger versions of the original cast were all fantastic choices. Christine Baranski & Omid Djalili steal all the scenes they're in. On the technical side, the movie was particularly well shot and edited.
My only beef is that the timeline doesn't match up.…
Just an absolutely beautiful and unusual love story. Guillermo del Toro works his magic here in ways that only he can, and deserves any best directing honors that come his way. Sally Hawkins & Doug Jones are amazing, and prove that so much can be said without uttering a single word. Long story short, I want more monster love stories!
Black Panther was definitely a whirlwind. Some of the best world building I've ever seen in a movie. They definitely succeeded in making Wakanda a living, breathing location. Like, I don't just want to see more Black Panther movies, I want to see more Wakandan movies! And we can start with a Shuri spinoff, because she makes a better Q than Q ever was.
