Ronit’s review published on Letterboxd:
Macbeth, Coen, Denzel, and Frances. There was no way I wasn't going to love this movie but everyone has outdone themselves. The tragedy of Macbeth is an actor's vehicle and it's such a joy to see these masters of their craft at work. Just a stupendous job by all actors involved. I wouldn't say this is the best movie based on Macbeth, that would be Throne of Blood. But Tragedy of Macbeth is perhaps the most definitive iteration of Macbeth. I can't imagine another movie that's more true to the Macbeth that was written for stage.
Visually, the Tragedy of Macbeth is flawless. Every frame a painting is a tad cliched at this point but it's damn true in this context. The scenes with the witch(es) were especially stunning. The more the movie progresses, the more the tension grows and it's audible and visible. It's a truly stunning movie.
My only real criticism is there are a few scenes with spotty editing. Other than that, perfection.
