scott aa wilson’s review published on Letterboxd:
You'd never guess this was made for 20k. The production alone looks ten times that. Luz is a gorgeous film, with Midsommar-esque saturation and a real sense of place, isolated by the woods, led by a religious maniac.
That's about all it has going for it. The Witch has got all of this covered and then some, especially since the filmmakers don't seem ready to handle its more ambitious themes or shocking scenes. It doesn't earn its violence, it doesn't know where to take its spirituality.
And I thought anything with a potentially demonic goat in it would be an instant 5 stars. Ach.
