Letterboxd — Your life in film

Tom Skerritt's excellent work in this film was diminished a little by the films general production value.

Is the movie good?
Not particularly.
Do I need to make an appointment with my therapist to discuss why I was so turned on watching George MacKay being led around on a leash and crawling on his hands and knees half naked? Probably.

Brutal.

Kiawentiio was lovely in a film that otherwise struggles to be authentic.

This flew right off the rails (and in a way that was a little too chaotic and uncomfortable).

We never really get away with anything.

Gyllenhaal does incredible work in an average film (obviously) made during the pandemic.

I watched 6 people walk out of this movie. It's far too long. The young girl who played Maya was the best part of this otherwise meandering film.

I would watch anything with Emily Blunt and her magnetic presence carried me through to the end of this movie. Her and the bad dad jokes.

Connie Britton was the soul of this movie.

I absolutely love that there are films being made about transgender youth and mental illness, but there was something odd about this movie. I couldn't buy into the "on the run" aspect and the mother's struggle with Jo's identity was forced. It just rang a little disingenuous.

There is just too much going on at once in this movie.
