although julia fox is incredibly fascinating to me. she stole every scene.
while i can respect it’s originality and daring for the time and context it was made…this is what happens when white people make movies about segregation. i literally guffawed at some of the comments made by ricki lake from the movie hairspray.
2007 is superior but still amiss. maybe a remake that centres the black characters would be cool? hairspray has this amazing energy of wholesome urgency at a time where the world is changing for the better, and i feel like it hasn’t had it’s due yet. yet to reach a final form.
I feel like we all just talk and talk and have grown so accustomed to no one listening or digesting our words that we, a lot of the time, forget we have said them. Or forget that these words we say can be profound, funny, indicative of the person we are at that time or even indicative of the world we live in, at that time.
