Signs ★★★★½

the craft alone makes it a worthy viewing to me - brilliantly shot and really well acted, clearly influenced by spielberg, similiarities to Jaws makes a lot of sense because the creature is never shown much—it's a common method but it's pretty effective in creating tension and paranoia and shyamalan really directs the shit out of this.

Signs is a crisis of faith, repressed trauma lingering during a situation we can't outrun with our protagonist also having an internal religious conflict...i'm an agnostic so i don't really have a particular stance on god but this really doesn't feel me, it's moreso about faith in general, something that comforts us in the face of uncertainty and it just happens to be religion in this case. tragedy is inevitable but faith will help us rebuild.
