IMCHER’s review published on Letterboxd:
You get what you fucking deserve.
Joker, being lauded as a new and inventive addition to the over saturated superhero market made me believe it would be more daring and humorous than some of DC recent efforts. Creatively it felt very like a homage to old Martin Scorsese movies, especially with Robert DeNiro in the cast as this Jokers idol. Joaquin Phoenixs performance is so unnerving and at times uncomfortable to watch, that I understand the praise for the film overall.
But I just found it to be somewhat empty. Some of the shots were interesting. Disenfranchisement of certain individuals and their ascent into the depths of human depravity are always more compelling when it’s a white man in clown make up.
