Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Good movie, but halfway through, I realized this movie is basically Kung Fu Panda 3.

A protagonist with unknown roots goes back home because of a problem only to find a hidden village where he is from. In this secret and isolated village, they must train in order to defeat the antagonist of the film.

Someone at Marvel really must love Kung Fu Panda.

Let’s get this clear… this movie is a perfectly acceptable airplane movie.

This is the kind of movie that I watch on a long flight and the slowly drift off too as the story goes on. Funnily enough this basically sums up the progression of this movie. The first two acts aren’t the worst thing I’ve seen, but as soon as the third act kicked in, I was nodding off in my chair. Filled with cringeworthy dialogue, bad writing, and…

I’ll preface my thoughts with the fact that I love Wes Anderson. His style and craft are part of the reason that I have such a fondness for cinema today. I find myself excited by every new movie he directs and this one is no exception. Do I believe this is his best film? No… I still maintain The Grand Budapest Hotel is his magnum opus stylistically, and Moonrise Kingdom his best storytelling. Despite this, The French Dispatch is by no means unenjoyable. It…

For one, I don’t quite understand all the hate this movie has been getting. To preface, I have never seen the original Danish movie but I do think this film was an interesting and entertaining watch. This I believe is one of Jake Gyllenhaal’s best performances as he acts his heart out in this film. Overall, are there better movies out there? Sure. Is this at all a horrible film? Under the circumstances they filmed in I personally thought what was delivered was a solidly made thriller.
