Christopher Perkins’s review published on Letterboxd:
Army of the Dead is a complete disappointment. What the film offers in its promising premise is bogged down in a surprising lack of depth, minimal character development, inconsistent tonal shifts, and barely any fun. For a 2 hour film about a zombie apocalypse in Las Vegas it sure is boring.
We’re expected to care about these mercenaries but their roles are defined by basic traits that give them no substance. If a movie like this can’t produce interesting protagonists then the action sequences should at least compensate for that. And to be fair, some of the gun slayings are ok. But those moments are few and far between.
Zack Snyder is a talented filmmaker. He has a distinct directorial style. However, Army of the Dead is on the lower tier of his filmography. What could’ve been a gory unadulterated good time becomes a slow paced, underdeveloped, snooze fest.
