Mattias Indy Pettersson’s review published on Letterboxd:
Alcohol, bastards, sweat and animal abuse.
It wasn’t until the last 25 minutes that I started to enjoy this film. It’s got some fine editing, and it looks great, but I kept thinking of ”Straw Dogs” (1971), ”Deliverance” (1972) and ”Apocalypse Now” (1979), and how I love those movies. ”Wake in Fright” did almost nothing for me, and I’m genuinely surprised about that.
Considering the rave reviews, I expected something out of the ordinary. And even though it’s slow, which I usually like, it felt rushed when it comes to how things evolve. Maybe it lacks the meat and soul that make great movies great? I’m not sure, but I had a hard time getting involved.
