Tramps ★★★★

Surprised and delighted by how this film manages to have both the artifice of a Hollywood/Indiewood movie (the zany side characters, the nearly ludicrous plotting, the zippy score) and also the delicate honest portraits of two teenagers who felt more authentically human than most documentary subjects. Certainly this is due to the fantastic central performances, but it’s also the location shooting that never gives an aerial view or establishing shot or needless extra moment. I’ve not seen any Danny Boyle films recently, but I’m tempted to say there’s something similar to his early films in these elements.
