Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island

Randa: "Mark my words. There'll never be a more screwed up time in Washington."

1973 was when America had its only president to date who was so transparently corrupt, the anti-democratic process our stupid Constitution left us with for removing psychopaths from office actually resigned, rather than face impeachment. This won't happen to Trump, since the political system has broken down even further over the ensuing decades.

Marlow: "Hey, what happened with the war? Did we win?"

Slivko: "Which one?"

Marlow: "Uh-huh. That makes sense."

John C. Reilly upstages the photorealistic visual effects and ends up being the best damn thing about Kong: Skull Island. Besides having more action sequences, nothing sets this apart from any of the other Kong films. Marvel Studios' template for making slick blockbusters has wrapped its tentacles around the "Monsterverse", too. Looks and sounds exactly like you'd expect it to in this day and age. A filler entry with no particular reason to exist outside setting up audiences for the American remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla.
