Genuinely so much more delightful than I remembered! Shirley Temple was unforgettable in this role (probably the one I most associate with her) and of course Myrna was stunning & iconic as always here too, but Cary Grant was actually more charming and hilarious and sweet than in my memories? Everyone in the cast (even down to Shirley’s high school pals) has such fun, fantastic chemistry with everyone else. Between Myrna, Shirley, and Cary particularly, it’s something magical to behold.
Now the premise of The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer seems like it could be creepy, but the execution is 100% innocence. There’s not a single moment that Cary Grant’s character seems to have dishonorable intentions toward Shirley Temple, and he is just terribly bewildered by the whole situation. And there’s nothing funnier in the world than Cary Grant doing utterly confused facial expressions! Except maybe Shirley Temple? I dunno, she is just perfect!
