Still from Joe Dante’s Gremlins (1984)

A Wrinkle in Time ★★★½

Yes, this movie is flawed. There are pacing issues, the narrative has several confounding jumps and contrivances, and it certainly gets tacky in some places. But there’s so much damn heart embedded into the fabric of the film, which it wears so proudly, that I couldn’t help but be swept up in its ambition.

Storm Reid is also everything. The way she evoked sadness, loneliness and desperation for her father was remarkably heartbreaking to me. Loved her palpable chemistry with Chris Pine too. There's a moment between the two (you know which one I mean) that I will soon not forget. Their raw acting in the moment gutted me.

I understand why some audiences won't be as engaged as I was, but give me this kind of ambition all day.

Also - don't come at me with book comparisons. I don't care how the book did it.
