God's Own Country ★★★★

Francis Lee crafts an intrinsic and honest look at how new relationships sometimes upend our lives. There's a transparency in the emotional progression of this film that is earnest in amplifying that idea. These characters are rugged and struggling to cope, and the authenticity in how things shift throughout is really great. Perhaps my favorite thing about the central romance here, is that it's treated as just a romance. There isn't a struggle for sexual identity or a need to overcome oppression. There are perhaps subtle glimpses at that, but more so, GOD'S OWN COUNTRY is a film that simply lingers on the idea that relationships change us. I love the beauty in how normalized that it is here.

I very much recommend this film.
