Phantom of the Paradise ★★★★

Feels like complete, unadulterated insanity smeared all over celluloid coming at you at a million miles a minute. I'll admit I had a lot of difficulty with this film for many of the same reasons that have prevented me from truly loving any DePalma film I've seen (Carrie, excluded) such as the acting style, some unfortunately dated elements, the tone and overall intent. But the last 30 minutes of this movie definitely inspired much stronger admiration. The pure fucking bonkers attitude and the really fun, playful music was something to behold. And the production design was almost other worldly. I can't say I really loved the movie, but I respected it and found myself totally interested in what was going on from start to finish.
