took a while till I stopped expecting gene hackman to show up...and he would have made for a very different film indeed. matthau is so laconic, so affable ( if occasionally grumpy) he is a bit lacking in bringing a sense of urgency to the proceedings. and maybe thats my problem with this - its too funny to be thrilling. that last shot of Shaw is straight out of a cartoon. there are some stars tho
one for my fav moment - the hysterical mother clutching at her children yelling 'we're all going to die!' - thanks mom!
