Found footage at its (near) best.
What an underappreciated little gem of a film. This is currently the highlight of the modern Hammer releases. There is a real Wicker Man vibe going on with this movie, the original of course. The whole small, isolated town with a magic cult is the trope that connects the two films. Within five minutes you see a child mauled to death by a feral dog.
Anyone with Shudder has no excuse to not watch this movie.
The more horror movies we watch, the more we get used to all the disturbing imagery displayed. Filmmakers compensate by pushing the gore or torture to extremes, increasing the frequency of jump scares, etc. A more is more approach. We might enjoy our horror movies, but we rarely REACT to them. At least I don't, not anymore.
