Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★★★½

Okay, I think I can start talking about this movie now...

I left this movie last night at the midnight showing in utter silence. I wasn’t sure what to think. I couldn’t comprehend it. It was too much. I had to hold off until today to share my thoughts, barely even able to talk to my friends as we left the theatre, because what a film. Rian Johnson delivers a film that puts character in the forefront, challenging them and pushing them in the most unexpected of ways, while revealing hidden truths that break, shatter and revive. It’s a Star Wars movie unlike any other. Some truly groundbreaking stuff happens here, and while I don’t think everything worked (most of it is a spoiler but I can say that Snoke and Phasma felt under-utilised), I appreciate the fact that this took as many risks as it does. Rian didn’t lie when he said he had total creative control, and with that control he lets everything loose in a number of weird, challenging and wonderful ways.

Also, porgs. It needs to be said that porgs, and everything involving porgs, brings pure joy to my heart and warmth to my soul. More porgs please.
