Minamata ★★★½

The look of this is really great, which makes sense considering it’s a movie, in part, about photography and capturing a moment. Depp was very good in a subdued performance— at first I was sure if Depp could keep it reigned in but, for the most part, he did (all but a couple “f you’s” and Jack Sparrowesque drunken slurring). My only real knock is that I feel like it didn’t stick the landing which, I’d argue, was due to poor secondary character development as the movie was too heavily focused on W. Eugene Smith and not the characters actually dealing with Minamata disease.
