Jacob Powell’s review published on Letterboxd:
Fuck, Melville has some exquisite style. Helped along by perfectly cast cool cat Alain Delon. The extended cat-and-mouse sequence reminds me of the balletic composition of Robert Bresson's metro scene in Pickpocket. Melville's economy of dialogue and emotion make effective punctuation of the various action sequences. Not hard to see why there continue to be so many nods to this film/character.
And what about that single wipe transition?
