    I Dream in Another Language

    ★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

It’s only january, but this feels like a strong contender for most disappointing movie of the year. A movie about a linguist wanting to keep a language alive which can be used to communicate with animals and some magic-realism, yes please! For quite a lot of this movie I felt like being nice and entertained and thus giving it my guilty pleasure rating. Both Amandla Steinberg and Nick Robinson are cute and there are some funny lines and the movie tries to be a little bit original I think (the idea of the astronaut). But then there’s the script, which is terrible with instalove and has characters making the most dumb decisions, but I was ready to let the fun persevere... until that ending... now I feel like throwing something like a bowling ball to my TV.

Edit after a week or something: I needed to give this a 3,5 star rating instead of a 3 after a week of thinking back to it and remembering a whole lot, this is just way to memorable for a 3 star watch. I will rewatch it soon and hope I’ll have to write an apology for not seeing it’s geniusness the first time around. Or I will fall asleep for real... that’s also a possibility.
