Gloria Estefan is a perfect human and she deserves all of our utmost respect (Laura Harring, too).

Elvis 2022
okay this is a pure shit thing to say but I went into this thinking it was gonna be like real bad and came out of it thinking it was actually pretty decent and even tho I understand Tom Hanks’ character frames the whole entry point into the story, I really didn’t care for him and his narration all that much even tho America’s Sweetheart and omg Austin Butler really killed it in this and made me think of Elvis as an actual human being with actual human feelings for once instead of just another mythical cautionary tale

Cha Cha Real Smooth 2022
I’ve only been to one bar mitzvah, sadly, but it was so fun and that party starter was really worth every single dollar.
i think this was good, but I wasn’t like wowed out of my chair. y’all really loved this at Sundance…festival haze is truly a fascinating thing.

Red Rocket 2021
unpopular opinion: I didn’t need to see Simon Rex repeatedly having simulated sex with a young actress playing a 17 year old (who looks much younger.) this movie makes me feel icky…was that the point? there’s not much new to see here that hasn’t been examined before…what did I miss that’s causing other people to love this?
(is it because I never cared much about Simon Rex on MTV? I was always a Serena Altschul girl)

Pieces of a Woman 2020
I dunno...I’m struggling with this one. All of the acting is pretty amazing in this, especially by Vanessa Kirby, but it feels like the filmmakers tried to pack so much into the script: trauma, grief, an imploding relationship thanks to trauma and grief, class warfare, managing sobriety, courtroom drama, and metaphors for growth and change via apple seeds and the passing of the seasons. phew! too much, movie.
also, it’s called Pieces of a Woman yet we start the film out…
