I don't know how Sion Sono managed to pull off something like this but for many reasons it's also a movie that I'm just glad exists for what it is.
Maybe the best, most bonkers film ever made about what it's like to grow up a devout Catholic? Complete with top notch action, genital gore, mixing together the best aspects of Alfred Hitchcock's movies in order to create a film about the lasting effects of emotional abuse or how people cope? All of this makes a love story that's all too perfect, and incredibly perverse from start to finish - all those four hours you'll spend watching Love Exposure aren't for nothing.
