I wrote an essay once, The Relatable Insecurity of Superman. Linked here, and pasted below for my log for June 13, 2013, when I first saw the film.

It’s the summer of 2013 and I’ve just purchased two tickets to the opening midnight showing of Man of Steel for myself and my girlfriend at the time. As I walk away from the ticket booth and head back to the car where Caity is waiting for me, I can’t help…

Andrew Garfield’s performance is the reason to check this one out. I’ve never heard this musical before, but as someone who has watched and listened to Rent countless times before I’d have to say that my favorite thing about tick tick… BOOM! was discovering Jonathan Larson’s creative voice is uniquely identifiable — the man who wrote Rent clearly wrote this, too.

To quote Dani as the credits rolled: “It was beautiful. I hated it. I loved it. I hate that I loved it. It was just… so well done.”

Every bit as powerful as it was the first time I watched it eight years ago. Thankful to finally have some friends who aren’t opposed to watching foreign films so I could share their company while watching.
