Satantango is a film that I can comfortably say I wasn't sure I'd ever actually watch. It's one that has been on my watchlist for around 2 years but until about a month ago I didn't actually have a way to watch the film. On top of that, to say that I was intimidated by the runtime would be an understatement.

The average film has about 1,200 shots with an average length of 5.5 seconds. Satantango, however, contains a mere…

Really disappointed by this one. Super charming music and general style throughout, but it just felt like a predictable mess to me.  I’m a huge fan of Wright’s work so I’m a bit surprised by how much it didn’t work for me.

While it contains almost all of the hallmarks of Anderson’s distinct style, it just feels pretty soulless.

For me, Wes Anderson’s charm comes from the warm feeling I get when I’m watching his films.  The aesthetic, quirky dialogue, and humor all support and bolster that crucial element of his work.  Without it, the film feels like a bit of an empty shell of what could have been.

I didn’t hate The French Dispatch, I was just a little surprised by how little I felt while watching it.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I’ve seen this movie 3 or 4 times and this was the first time that I almost broke down in tears watching Paul Dano’s character get beaten.  The realization that he was a victim his entire life, only to be victimized yet again for days on end for something that he didn’t do and likely didn’t understand really got me.  Not sure why it only hit me on this rewatch.

    Anyways, Villeneuve is a genius.

Where do I possibly even begin in thinking about The Lighthouse? I guess a good place to start would be my insanely high level of excitement going in to seeing this. From the time I saw the first trailer like 6 months ago, I couldn't wait to see this film. Most of the time, when I let myself get that excited to see a film, it ends up disappointing me because there is no plausible way that it could have…
