Heartbreak turns Chow into a fuckboi, which, fair enough.
Lots of critics and fans like to quote the line about how it’s no good meeting the right person too early or too late, and while of course this is a poignant and moving statement about the nature of heartbreak I feel as though we’re failing to just come out and say that this is the hottest sad movie ever?
Also, while I hate the idea that you have to watch anyone’s whole filmography to really get their best movie, this is a pretty incredible capstone to my deep dive on Wong Kar-Wai. I don’t know if it would have worked for me out of that context, but tonight I love it like crazy. Better than Chungking Express? Maybe not. But pretty goddamn good.
