Andra Day gives a good performance that gets overshadowed by an extremely messy, baity biopic. The storytelling is so convoluted, the directing is completely amateur and it’s overly long. It feels so cliched for your average biopic and some of the dialogue is downright cheesy. This becomes another miss by Lee Daniels.
When this first came out to theaters, I think I ended up seeing it three times, which for me was rare. I’d almost never even seen a movie twice in theaters, let alone three times.
