I don’t think I’ve ever seen this movie.
It’s fun, but held back by some dated techniques of the era. Its leads are absolute fucking stars every second they’re on screen though.

I don’t ONLY want Harvey Guillen to play people named de la Cruz who say their name out loud in moments of triumph… but I don’t NOT want him to do that either.
A lot of movies start really good and then just fall apart. It’s more rare that a movie starts bad and then finds its footing and this is one of those rarities. A very heavy handed and melodramatically written opening, then holy shit does it elevate to a completely different level in the 2nd hour.
Have you ever watched a movie in which the characters are actively irritating, have no desires, and never change BUT you hold out because it’s so well made and well acted that it HAS to pay off only for the final 90 seconds of it to flip you off and tell you to go fuck yourself for caring all while it walks away with your money?

Perfect example of how an ending can ruin everything and how sometimes it isn’t the journey, but indeed the destination.
