Waves ★★

The film's first half is the worst thing I saw at TIFF, a *most*-directed Job saga of pure misery befalling a protagonist who has absolutely no character outside his possessions and luxury and the subsequent removal of both. The second half, which is mostly just a standard indie, is perhaps more boring but nonetheless more emotionally considered and more interested in its characters as people than as props to be shot with various color filters. This is still a soundtrack with an elaborate visual album attached, but I responded to the second half, to my surprise.
