While not an improvement on the 1947 version, this overly long remake was a pretty decent attempt at a modern-day interpretation of a 40s style film noir. To my eyes, Bradley Cooper doesn’t have enough screen presence to carry this one to the finish line, but the large circus of supporting actors give plenty of enjoyment.

Melodrama from Sweden with great noirish cinematography but sadly less than stellar acting by the maid and the soldier characters. The actor playing the brother of the male protagonist was the most interesting role. The tone gets pretty bleak near the end, which at least gave this an original non-Hollywood twist.

Boy, what a drag. A huge disappointment -- but I seem to be one of a kind in not liking this movie. The idea to follow the same actors over a 12-year period is interesting, but that in itself doesn't lead to a great movie. Let me repeat: The idea to follow the same actors over a 12-year period is interesting, but that in itself doesn't mean the end result will be awesome. And this one just didn't do it…

My favorite short movie ever made, and on some days my favorite movie period. It has amazing characters, stunning dialogue, great surreal humor and a beautiful audio track.  Am not going to describe the plot, if there is one -- just watch this. And rewatch it, like I did.
