Really digging the recent spate of sci-fi that challenges the techno-optimism sometimes inherent in these types of films. This one is especially interesting for it’s combination of deeply humanist thematic concerns and it’s odyssey-like structure—it feels like it contributes some genuinely original vision to the genre. Love the moon pirates, violent space apes, and the desiccated Martian outpost, and especially love its central theme. It’s a film that’s 100% of the moment and yet could easily become a genre classic in the future. The score, cinematography, and performances are all on point, too. Still thinking about it.
