Too many Movies
I've currently watched four Hong films, and I still don't know what I think of them. Though maybe not the best, it was probably the most enjoyable out of the four, possibly due to the more positive attitude that surrounds all the usual toxic portrayals of male envy and alcohol. For once, it really did drew me in to think deeper about the surreal, the non-linear, and the otherwise unbearable characters in the story, and I think that's neat.

If Lawrence of Arabia showed the grandeur of the desert, Woman in the Dunes shows how disgusting sand can really be.
The shots of sand creeping down the dunes, the close-ups of bits of sand stuck on hair and neck and faces, they all make it feel as if the sand is alive, like some ever morphing insect. Antlion comparisons are probably numerous and justified, but I found it surprising how the titular woman in the dune was more sympathetic…
