  • Eraserhead

Watched this today in dual celebration of the movie’s 43rd anniversary and my girlfriend and I’s 4th anniversary. She’s hated the movie for years, but now admits that while it’s a terrible experience, she doesn’t hate it.

She does, however, hate Eraserhead baby. She would not stop talking about how much she hates Eraserhead baby.

“I don’t care what you replace it with — make it an orange idgaf”

    Frozen II

Anti-colonialism? In a Disney movie? We *love* to see it folks

  • Aladdin

Better movie than Beauty and the Beast, but not as good of songs.

Hate to say it, but Genie only works for me like 75% of the time. Gets more funny as the movie goes on but his first few scenes are fucking GRATING.

Aladdin and Jasmine are both perfect!

  • Carnival of Souls

    Carnival of Souls

Such a magical film. Its world feels so far away, but so adjacent to ours; the cinematic equivalent of the uncanny valley.

Pulp art at its most iconic.

  • The Little Mermaid

    The Little Mermaid

    Fuck yeah

  • Parasite

I prefer the color version, but the black and white version is fucking immaculate too. So many more details come to life with repeated viewings. So so so good. Still the best film of the decade.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Amazing!!!! From a filmmaking standpoint this works better than almost any superhero movie I’ve ever seen. Margot Robbie is better here than she was in I, Tonya, and Ewan McGregor might be even better as the final boss of misogynists.

Nothing hit harder than Harley saying she’s used to being underestimated.

  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Gotta respect the crazy shit they went for (and I really love some of it) but this is a very frustrating tactile experience, a lot of it has way worse animation and plotting than Cinderella, which I previously thought was the least rewarding Disney Princess movie.

You could make an excellent 15 minute short that fully does away with the dwarves and I probably would be in love with it.

Happy is the only tolerable dwarf.

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron

    Avengers: Age of Ultron

Boring at times, poorly written at others, but it’s amazing what Infinity War and Endgame have done for this movie. Knowing what’s to come makes this a much more satisfying watch.

  • Winnie the Pooh

    Winnie the Pooh

Listen I know this is the second Winnie the Pooh movie to receive 4.5 stars from me this month. I get it!!

But oh my god the animation, the jokes, THE CREDITS!!!!!, and the post-credits scene!!! I’m in love!!!

Shoutout to my girlfriend for making me love this bear and his friends so much that I’ve pretty much broken down in tears at every piece of Winnie the Pooh media that I’ve seen recently.

  • Cinderella

    Three things:

    1. The magnificent A-plot (Cinderella) totally makes up for the mouse B-plot (bad) and the Grand Duke subplot (very bad)

    2. The animation is either gorgeous and unbelievable and lovely or an actually very frustrating watch in a way I can’t really explain. It’s kinda like the opposite of watching satisfying videos on YouTube?

    3. I know he only shows up for LITERALLY five seconds, but Cinderella’s dad can GET IT
