I normally don't like movies that don't need to be movies—does that make sense? This movie is essentially a slideshow of still images set to a casual voice-over. That would have bothered me a lot if I didn't know beforehand that Khalik Allah is a member of the Five-Percent Nation, whose practices emphasize oral recitation.

Every film before it is obsolete. Every film after is redundant. Godard was an entitled brat when he thought 'Week End' was le fin du cinéma, as clearly it had ended nearly five years earlier and it only took Kenneth Anger less than half an hour to do so.

Maybe I'm exaggerating. But there is no denying that the use of music, of lighting, of pacing, of inter-cutting, of imagery—every ingeniously reinvented technique serves to make this the rawest, gayest, and most powerful experimental short film in U.S. history.
