    A new low for producers dumping something with zero thought or care; this was clearly shot with a wide aspect ratio in mind (probably 1.85:1, considering the standards of the time), but it was released on DVD in 1.37:1 . As a result, the boom mic is visible in countless shots (I'd estimate over half of the movie), and in many shots, the upper edge of the screen is obscured. They couldn't be bothered to do some basic cropping.

    Peak example of idiot producers sucking everything interesting out of a film to make it appeal to a wider audience. Mostly boring but not worthy of scorn up until the end; it becomes outright awful during the last 10 minutes.

    This film continues the Halloween franchise's proud tradition of following up a decent reboot with a mess that ruins all of the goodwill that the reboot garnered. Also, "evil dies tonight" is said at least 21 times. I counted.

  • Prom Night

    Prom Night


    Prom Night is a post-Halloween, pre-Friday the 13th slasher that attempts to build some genuine suspense, but it ultimately fails. There is one effectively edited, creepy telephone call scene near the beginning of the film, some of the shots in the high school nicely utilize angles to create a bit of an ominous feeling, Jamie Lee Curtis delivers a solid performance, and some of the disco music is catchy, but other than that, the film is fairly boring.
