Honestly more entertaining than the similar—and vastly overrated—Don’t Look Now. Maybe I enjoyed this more because:

    a) I’m tired of George Lazenby slander! I want him get more love than he does; he is the Bond in my favorite James Bond film, which is unfairly maligned when Roger Moore’s entire Bond filmography is right there. He is also convincing as a grieving, young father; frustrated vigilante; AND exhausted working artist. I would hate myself too if my kid was kidnapped and murdered…

Nihilism on heels, degradation in a black dress. running, screaming into the woods at night: a lost soul in a pitch dark world.

I don't think I can watch this again for a while, it just gets more and more harsh and horrifying with each viewing. Every single person in Laura Palmer's life failed her, perhaps a fate worse than her eventual death. Seven days in the complete and utter (self) destruction of a young woman who never stood a…

Peak "my boyfriend made me watch this" material.

I couldn't exactly get into this because it felt overly long (two hours honestly felt like 3), was hard to follow at times, and I wanted to fling myself into the beyond every time either "Kaneda!" or "Tetsuo!" was shouted.

BUT this is, of course, the gold standard for anime, and damn, the animation, especially the great body horror stuff toward the end, is exhilarating and the backstory of the geriatric superchildren…

Pete Walker’s muse Sheila Keith is an underrated weirdo and British horror royalty (see also Frightmare, House of Whipcord/Long Shadows/Mortal Sin). Highly recommended but gird your ears against Jack Jones's schmaltz soaked singing.

I will never get over this film. A mind, body, and soul shattering masterpiece.

The Devils cannot be matched or bested, as it is truly a singular film the likes of which we will never see again (it *is* my favorite film after all so I am biased). Vanessa Redgrave, Oliver Reed, and Derek Jarman, full stop. The Devils sets the table for Russell’s later acerbic portraits of nightmarish religious fervor Crimes of Passion and Lair of the White Worm and established him as…

If He Dies, He Dies: The Movie

Abel Ferrara and most especially Zoe Lund did that. Brilliant, audacious film in every single way…and that score. Ms. 45 truly fires on all cylinders.

Every catcall, unwanted overture, act of violence, or blatant disregard—I felt it, because we’ve all been through it. Props to Ferrara for not dragging out the sexual violence for cheap titillation. Ms. 45 is perhaps one of the most relatable films I’ve seen (who hasn’t thought, “I wish they’d all leave…
